Introduction: The study about the doctor’s professional insertion represent an opportunity to understand situations such as how the medical course has been preparing the students to the professional practice or how the demands arising from the job market shape the life and trajectory of these professionals. Objective: To analyze how the newly graduated doctors are inserted in the job market. Methodology: A prospective, descriptive and analytic study with the population of 122 graduate doctors from the years 2013 and 2014, from a public institution. Results: At the time of the research, 86.7% worked with direct patient care, specially in the public sector (61.5%) and living in capital cities (82.2%). Most of the newly graduates took part in the selection for Medical Residency (MR) (91.1%), where the main medical specialties were Medical Clinic, General Surgery and Radiology. The amount of working time dedicated to the primary and tertiary levels of health care was significantly higher than desired at the conclusion of the course. As for the wage income, 57.7% considered themselves satisfied or very satisfied with the income, although 97.7% considered medicine a wearing profession. Conclusion: The analyzed group of newly graduates is strongly integrated in tertiary services, what is possibly related to the prevalence of interviewees attending MR, a fact that can explain the reason why the participants are not going to the countryside. The lack of interest for specialties with a more general nature, specially Family and Community Medicine, is striking. At last, in spite of the fact that most of the interviewees have achieved financial satisfaction, the great majority considers the profession to be wearing.
