This present paper aims to establish a correlation between the works of Francisco de Vitoria and Luigi Ferrajoli, on the themes of sovereignty and international law. Initially the Victorian ideas are presented from the reading of the classic relectiones. Then we discuss the Ferrajolian criticism of the sovereignty model currently prevalent in the world as well as the garantist proposal for the reconfiguration of international law. In conclusion: i) the theoretical proximity between Vitoria and Ferrajoli despite the temporal gap between them; and ii) the necessity to reformulate today's international law under the penalty of humanity enduring irreversible damage. For this purpose, it was used the comparative method, associated with the bibliographic technique, with research carried out on books and scientific articles prestigious by the academic community.
