About the Journal
The Revista do Curso de Direito do UNIFOR (ISSN 2236-7632) is an online scientific journal that originated from a 2010 university extension project and is affiliated with the Law Program at the University Center of Formiga. Its purpose is to disseminate legal research with an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary focus, catering to the academic community, researchers, and legal practitioners.
It is an open-access journal, with all content freely available to users and their institutions.
The journal is guided by the following principles:
- The democratization of thought and scientific discourse;
- Methodological rigor;
- Factual accuracy;
- The exercise of critical thinking;
- Adherence to prevailing social ethical standards;
- The social and legal relevance of the published topics, issues, and content.
It publishes original articles, book reviews, interviews, and documents that contribute to the advancement of legal knowledge. Contributions are accepted in Portuguese, Spanish, French, English, and Italian, provided they meet the required standards of scientific quality.
Adopting an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach, the journal accepts contributions that engage with fields such as Philosophy, Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Public Administration, Human Rights, and other applied social sciences, provided there is legal relevance and scientific rigor.
It covers both classic and contemporary legal topics, with a particular focus on issues related to social justice, fundamental rights, sustainability, technological innovation, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Submissions containing discriminatory, offensive, or otherwise contrary content to human rights, research ethics, and academic integrity will not be accepted.
Frequency, Publication Flow, and Special Issues
The journal is published semi-annually. It operates on a continuous publication model, meaning articles are published as soon as they pass all peer review and editing stages, and are subsequently compiled into semi-annual volumes.
Special issues may be published when there is a significant scientific justification, such as emerging themes, tributes to prominent researchers, or the dissemination of proceedings from major academic events.
All manuscripts submitted to special issues undergo the same peer-review process as regular issues, with no relaxation of scientific, ethical, or editorial standards.
Manuscript Submission
Submissions are accepted from students, faculty, researchers, and legal practitioners or professionals in related fields, individually or co-authored, provided that, preferably, at least one author holds a master’s degree or higher.
Submissions must be original and unpublished, and must not be under review by any other journal. Exceptional cases of republication (such as papers published in internal event proceedings or tributes) will only be accepted with the express authorization of the Editorial Board, with clear reference to the original publication.
When applicable, authors must submit a data availability statement regarding the research supporting the article's findings, indicating repositories, links, or justifications for any access restrictions. This statement must accompany the submission and will be published alongside the article.
Submissions must be made exclusively through the journal’s online platform, following registration and the completion of all required information.
Providing the ORCID for all authors is mandatory at the time of submission, ensuring the traceability and standardization of authorship information.
Upon submission, authors must check the Declaration of Compliance with Ethics and Originality provided by the journal.
Authors are not permitted to publish more than one article in the same issue of the journal.
Peer Review Process
The journal adopts a double-blind peer review system. Each manuscript will be evaluated by at least two reviewers external to the editorial board.
In the event of a divergence between the evaluations of the two reviewers, the article will be sent to a third ad hoc reviewer at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
The journal reserves the right to conduct an initial screening of submissions to verify alignment with its scope, formal compliance, and adherence to ethical guidelines.
Reviewers must complete a standardized evaluation form, assessing criteria such as originality, scientific and social relevance, argumentative consistency, methodological rigor, and clarity.
At the discretion of the Editorial Board, and subject to the agreement of both authors and reviewers, the journal may publish evaluation reports alongside the articles to ensure transparency.
The decision of the reviewers is final and not subject to appeal of any nature.
Author Guidelines
The limit of authors per article is set at three to prevent ghost or guest authorship. Exceptions must be duly justified. Significant contributions from all authors must be ensured, in compliance with CNPq Guidelines (items 17 and 18, 2012) and the CRediT Taxonomy (Contributor Roles Taxonomy).
Manuscripts must adhere to ABNT standards (NBR 10520 for citations and NBR 6023/2018 for references), as well as the template provided by the journal.
Articles must contain: title in Portuguese and English, abstract in Portuguese and English, keywords in Portuguese and English, introduction, body text, conclusion/final considerations, and references (only those effectively cited in the work).
Articles must align with the journal's editorial objectives and fall into one of the following categories: legal article or book review.
The journal accepts submissions on a continuous rolling basis in Portuguese or foreign languages, and accepted works will be published in future issues at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
Selected manuscripts shall not generate any remuneration or financial rights for their authors. The submission of an original manuscript implies authorization for publication.
Authors submitting manuscripts for evaluation must indicate their agreement with the Creative Commons "Copyright Statement" provided in Step 1 of the submission process.
Manuscripts will be automatically rejected if they do not comply with the formatting requirements set forth below.
Articles must have a minimum length of 12 pages and a maximum of 25 pages. Book reviews must be no longer than 5 pages and must display the full bibliographic reference of the analyzed work at the beginning.
The file containing the manuscript must not exceed 3 MB.
The text must be typed in Times font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing, and margins of 3 cm (top and left) and 2 cm (bottom and right).
The first page of the article must contain the main title and subtitle in size 12 font, centered, and in uppercase.
The Abstract precedes the text and must be written as a single paragraph without indentation, in size 12 font with single line spacing, up to a maximum of 250 words. Keywords must be placed directly below the abstract, preceded by the heading Keywords, and consist of 3 terms representative of the manuscript's content.
Authors should consult the USP Controlled Vocabulary at 143.107.73.99/Vocab/SIBIX652.dll/Index to select the keywords that best represent the topic of the proposed article.
The English Abstract follows the Portuguese Abstract and must be preceded by the title in English and followed by the Keywords.
In block quotations and footnotes, font size must be 10 with single line spacing (1.0), in accordance with NBR 10520/2002 - ABNT.
Primary section headings must appear in bold uppercase letters, while secondary section headings must appear in bold with only the initial letter capitalized.
Ethics and Good Practice Policy
The journal adopts fundamental principles of research ethics, academic integrity, and editorial responsibility, ensuring that the entire submission, peer review, and publication process is conducted in accordance with international standards of scientific best practices. This involves the ethical commitment of authors, peer reviewers, the editorial board, guest editors, and dossier coordinators.
The journal promotes Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA), ensuring representation across gender, race, ethnicity, region, and institution within its editorial board and reviewer pool, while ensuring that published content is accessible in appropriate digital formats.
It follows COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) recommendations, adhering to international standards of scientific integrity, plagiarism prevention, transparency, and editorial accountability.
The use of artificial intelligence tools must be explicitly declared. AI tools are permitted solely for technical support (translation, language editing, formatting). Generating full or substantial sections of the article using AI is strictly prohibited, and failure to declare AI usage will be treated as an ethical violation.
Research involving human subjects must present approval from a Research Ethics Committee, where applicable.
All parties involved must declare any personal, academic, financial, institutional, or professional conflicts of interest.
Ethical Standards of Conduct for Authors
Submitted manuscripts must demonstrate originality and novel contribution, concurrent submissions and data falsification or manipulation being strictly prohibited.
Republications are permitted only on an exceptional basis (e.g., event proceedings, tributes), subject to express authorization by the Editorial Board and clear attribution to the original publication.
Plagiarism is strictly prohibited in any form, including:
- Direct: Literal copying without attribution;
- Indirect: Paraphrasing without attribution;
- Source Plagiarism: Using secondary sources as if they were primary sources;
- Consented: Presenting another person's work as one's own with the consent of the actual author;
- Self-plagiarism: Re-submitting one's own previously published work as new content.
Cases of plagiarism will be reviewed by the editorial team, guaranteeing the right to defense, and may result in sanctions (up to a 2-year submission ban), in addition to notification to the plagiarized author and relevant institutions.
Authors must promptly report any errors or inaccuracies identified after publication.
Accepted manuscripts returned with revision requirements must be revised in light of the peer review reports, accompanied by justifications when reviewer suggestions are not incorporated.
All funding sources must be fully declared.
The submitting author must ensure the approval of all co-authors prior to submission.
Ghost authorship is strictly prohibited, and each named author must have made a significant contribution to the work.
Post-Publication Correction Policy
The journal adopts official COPE workflows for Errata, Addenda, and Retractions.
- Errata: Minor errors that do not affect the findings or scientific conclusions.
- Addenda: Relevant additions that do not alter the original text.
- Retractions: Cases of severe misconduct or major scientific error.
Requests must be sent to the Editor (revistadireito@uniformg.edu.br). Cases will be evaluated according to international ethical guidelines, ensuring impartiality and transparency.
Errata are published when factual, typographical, or methodological errors that do not compromise scientific validity are identified.
Retractions apply to severe errors, plagiarism, or data manipulation. The decision is made by the editorial board (minimum of 5 members), granting authors the right to defense.
A Partial Rectification is issued when only part of the article contains inconsistencies and must be linked directly to the original article.
Retractions will not be issued in cases of authorship disputes without misconduct, correctable errors, lack of conclusive evidence, or non-material conflicts of interest.
Allegations of misconduct will be reviewed by the Editorial Board within 90 days.
All decisions regarding corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern will be documented in the editorial management system and linked to the original article.
Procedures will be conducted in an impartial and objective manner.
Documentation will be publicly accessible, ensuring complete traceability.
Digital Archiving
The journal implements digital preservation practices using cloud infrastructure, institutional repositories, and networks such as LOCKSS and the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), ensuring long-term integrity and accessibility.
Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain copyright over their published works while granting the journal the right of first publication under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY).
Full or partial reproduction of published texts is permitted, provided the original publication is properly cited.
Authors are permitted to deposit their articles in institutional or personal repositories immediately after publication, provided full reference to the version published in this journal is maintained.
