Introduction: The prevalence of cesarean sections has increased in Brazil. Pregnancy and childbirth are influenced by cultural and economic aspects of the society in which the pregnant woman is inserted. Objective: The present study aimed to identify the factors that influence the choice of route of delivery by pregnant women attended at Basic Health Units in Santo Antônio do Monte/MG and Bambuí/MG. Methodology: The research, of an observational and quantitative-qualitative nature, involved the application of questionnaires to 26 pregnant women, investigating socioeconomic, educational, cultural, emotional aspects and the guidance received during prenatal care. Results: The results showed that the preference for natural birth is associated with the perception of a faster recovery and the naturalness of the process, while the choice for a cesarean section is influenced by medical recommendations and the search for a more controllable and predictable process. Conclusion: The importance of public policies that promote health education and the humanization of obstetric care is highlighted, valuing women's autonomy and providing clear information for conscious decision-making.
