Abstract

Alcoholism, also known as alcoholism, is one of the main factors that contribute to traffic accidents on federal highways. The study aims to highlight the impacts of alcohol consumption as an accident-causing agent on Brazilian federal highways. This is a descriptive and quantitative study. The collection took place in July 2023, in which public domain information was extracted from the Federal Highway Police (PRF) website and resulted in the grouping of data in spreadsheet format using Microsoft Excel 2019 software. Thus, the final sample was composed for a total of 147,279 accidents on Brazilian federal highways caused by alcohol consumption in the period from 2017 to 2022. It is evident that the most frequent types of severity were uninjured cases and minor injuries respectively, where it is observed that the years 2020 and 2022 obtained the largest quantity. Thus, serious injuries occurred mostly in 2021. In accordance with the results obtained, it is notable that in 2022 there were a greater number of deaths. In view of the above, the impacts of alcoholism as an agent causing accidents on Brazilian federal highways are evident as injuries to victims, damage to road infrastructure, expenses in the departments responsible for health and safety, as well as all road traffic logistics
