Agroecology is a relevant topic to be restricted to agronomy, having a broad reach within society. The objective of this article is to analyze and explain Hugh Lacey's thoughts on agroecology as a philosophy and contextualized science. It is central to assume and consider, whether in Lacey or other theoretical frameworks, the importance of agroecology as a structured philosophical proposal. In Lacey, agroecology reaches a meta-scientific character, being for the philosopher a great model for the defense of a contextualized science. Agroecology in Lacey can be interpreted as a philosophy and as a context-sensitive science, therefore, attentive in its practice to environmental sustainability, social justice, food sovereignty and democratic participation.
