Scientific practices in elementary education: starting a herbarium

Abstract

Introduction: With the shortcomings of teaching in Brazil, it is necessary to update didactic practices, for a playful and interesting way of teaching. Objective: presenting to classes a scientific methodology with emphasis on a herbarium, explaining the assembly of exsiccatae and the importance of the study of botany, promoting scientific interest. Methodology: assembly of exsiccates, 7th grade students, who collected the plant material, then it was pressed and assembled. Results: 102 exsiccates were made, with the families Rosaceaceae, Apocynaceae and Rubiaceae as the most representative in virtue of being present in the students' daily lives and in the anthropic environment. Discussion: This teaching method in botany proved to be effective in assimilating the content and was well accepted by students who participated effectively.
