Abstract

The article analyzes the role of the lawyer as a political actor, contrasting his performance during periods of authoritarian tension and later in the Brazilian democratic recovery to investigate how his performance in guaranteeing individual and collective rights and freedoms relates to political-legal limits established by the framework current institutional framework, so that, at the same time as it conceives its actions, it is also its antagonist, revealing contradictions. To this end, it draws theoretically on critical currents of law, and uses, mainly, consultation and review of bibliography and documents. The data collected is subject to qualitative analysis.
