Abstract

Introduction: Parasitic diseases are neglected infirmities, being considered one of the main public health problems that mainly affect children and individuals living in rural areas. The transmission is usually related to the ingestion of water or food contaminated by eggs, oocysts, cysts, or due to the penetration of larvae through the skin. Objectives: Evaluate the parasitosis that affects the residents of the Boca da Mata district, municipality of Arcos-MG, through the Kato-Katz and Spontaneous Sedimentation diagnostic methods, analyzing which species of parasites are present in the population and gender that present higher frequencies. Methodology: The individuals were invited to participate in the study and informed about the research. Those who agreed to participate signed the free and informed consent forms and were instructed on how to proceed with the collection. The samples were collected and analyzed using the Spontaneous Sedimentation and Kato-Katz methods. Results: 189 fecal samples were analyzed, of which 12.5% were positive for some species of parasite. The parasites found were Entamoeba coli with 7.96%, subsequently, Schistosoma mansoni with 2.27%, and Trichuris trichiura with 2.27%. The frequency of parasites found was higher in children, with 8%. The results were delivered to the patients and the parasitized individuals were sent to the health center in Arcos-MG. Conclusion: It was observed that parasitism persists in areas where adequate basic sanitation is lacking, as was the case of the place of this study. For the control of parasitosis, it is necessary to implement public policies aimed at prophylaxis and treatment, seeking to reduce this problem.
