Abstract

Hydrolyzable tannins, total phenols and flavonoids present in the leaves of Syagrus coronata, in Senhor do Bonfim, Bahia, Brazil, were monthly for one year. The phenolic content in the leaves was obtained from the samples which were dried, steeped with ethanol: water and centrifuged. The results were correlated with climatic conditions (rainfall, humidity and mean temperature) through chemometric methods. Principal component analysis revealed that the dosage of hydrolyzable tannins, tannins, flavonoids and phenolics was not influenced by climate change. However, a content of these compounds becomes more prominent in the dry season. These facts suggest that mild climatic changes do not cause significant factor in the concentration of phenol, flavonoids and tannins in the studied species.
