Introduction:Syphilis is one of the major diseases that can be transmitted during pregnancy, presenting high incidence rates. In Brazil, it is estimated that about 12,000 newborns present the disease annually. Aim: To analyze the index of pregnant women with syphilis, assisted by the Unified Health System of the city of Lagoa da Prata, Minas Gerais. Methodology:This retrospective cross-sectional epidemiological study evaluated the cases of pregnant women with syphilis in the municipality of Lagoa da Prata, from 2008 to 2018. Data were collected from the Epidemiological Surveillance of the city, evaluating the index of pregnant women positive for syphilis in the last ten years. Results:There were 53 cases of syphilis in the municipality of Lagoa da Prata. Of these, a total of 6 cases correspond to congenital syphilis, 19 of syphilis in pregnant women and 28 of acquired syphilis. There has been a significant increase in the number of syphilis cases in the municipality in the last ten years. Most cases (47.2%) were reported in 2017, where the incidence rate was approximately 0.49/1000 per habitants. Pregnant women were treated with antibiotics, with Penicillin G Benzatin in a total dosage of 7.200.000/IU being the most used regimen. Conclusion:The reduction in the number of cases, as well as the control of syphilis, should be considered a priority by the municipal health agencies. It is ideal to encourage notifications in order to overcome the low rate of notifications made by health facilities.
